LABS AND COMPUTING
Surveying Laboratory
The planning and design of all Civil Engineering projects such as construction of highways, bridges, tunnels, dams etc. are based upon surveying measurements. Moreover, during execution, project of any magnitude is constructed along the lines and points established by surveying. Thus, surveying is a basic requirement for all Civil Engineering projects. And hence students will be trained with various surveying techniques including the advanced surveying techniques using modern surveying equipments. Survey Laboratory is equipped with latest and modern surveying instrument such as Total Station, Pantograph, Planimeter, Optical Square and etc.
Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory
Geotechnical engineering is the discipline within civil engineering related to the performance of soil mechanics, including their subsurface conditions, determination of the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties that will influence the project under consideration, and the assessment of the risks that may be created by conditions of the site. Geotechnical Engineering laboratory at the department level provide the practical and hands-on experience in carrying out various tests related to soil materials.
The laboratory is equipped with high end testing machines such as CBR apparatus, Vane shear apparatus, Direct shear apparatus, Tri-axial shear apparatus, Standard Penetration Test Equipments and etc.
Mechanics of Solids Laboratory
Mechanics of Solids is the combination of physical, mathematical, and computer laws and techniques to predict the behavior of solid materials that are subjected to mechanical or thermal loadings. It is the branch of mechanics that deals with the behavior of solid matter under external actions. The external actions may be external force, temperature change, displacement. This field has a wide range of applications, laws and concepts of solid mechanics are used In Civil Engineering to design foundations and structures, In Geo-Mechanics to model shape of planets, tectonics and predict earthquakes, In Mechanical Engineering to design load bearing components for vehicles, power generation and transmission.
The students will be trained in Mechanics of Solids with following type of instruments such as winch crab apparatus, parallel force apparatus, moment of inertia fly wheel, wheel & differential axle apparatus, hooks law apparatus, young’s modulus apparatus and etc
Concrete Technology Laboratory
Concrete technology guide provides information on materials, properties, mix design, types, strength and durability of concrete. The concrete technology laboratory equipped with high end instruments such as Universal testing machine, compression testing machine, cement autoclave testing machine, vibrating table, slump test apparatus, Electric Concrete Mixer, L box & U Box for testing self compacting concrete etc. deliver the students a high value practical experience.
Environmental Engineering Laboratory
Environmental Engineering Laboratory of Civil Engineering Department is recognized as Schedule-I Environmental Auditor by Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), Gandhinagar for carrying out the environment audit of industries falling in schedule-I.
Department has developed “Environmental Engineering Laboratory” as “Environmental Audit Cell” which is well equipped with the instruments used for measurement of different parameters of Ambient Air, Stack Emission, Waste Water, Portable Water and Noise. Environment Audit Cell under the department of civil engineering is providing Environmental Management System (EMS) adequacy certificate as per the need of industries. Environment Audit cell is also providing consultancy services to the industries in the field of environment.
Highway Engineering Laboratory
Highway engineering is an engineering discipline branching from civil engineering that involves the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of roads, bridges, and tunnels to ensure safe and effective transportation of people and goods. Highway engineers must take into account future traffic flows, design of highway intersections/interchanges, geometric alignment and design, highway pavement materials and design, structural design of pavement thickness, and pavement maintenance.
The highway engineering laboratory equipped with the instruments such as marshal testing machine, CBR apparatus, Bitumen ductility testing machine, Los Angeles abrasion testing machine, Aggregate crushing value test apparatus, Aggregate impact testing machine and etc. help the students in understanding and determining the properties of highway materials.
Engineering Geology Laboratory
Rocks are utilized as a part of the development of foundation or base of civil engineering ventures, on the grounds that the stones are more steady and having high quality. The branch of geology that arrangements with use of land learning to civil engineering ventures is known as geographical engineering or engineering geology. Engineering geologists are required wherever a comprehension of shake properties and topographical structures is required, i.e. road development, building foundations, dam development and so on.
The engineering geology laboratory unveils different earthen material sample such as ores, minerals, metals, alloys and different models about earthquake, rocks and volcanoes, metamorphic rocks, fault & folds, structure of the earth, to the students which helps them in understanding the theoretical concepts in better manner.
Earthquake Engineering Laboratory
Earthquake engineering is the science of the performance of buildings and structures when subjected to seismic loading. It also assists analysing the interaction between civil infrastructure and the ground, including the consequences of earthquakes on structures. One of the most important aims of earthquake engineering is the proper design and construction of buildings in accordance with building codes, so as to minimize damage due to earthquakes. It is the earthquake engineer who ensures proper design of buildings so they will resist damage due to earthquakes, but at the same time not be unnecessarily expensive.
Earthquake engineering laboratory is equipped with highly sophisticated equipments such as shake table with controller unit, spring mass model, models of single and dual storey building with different bracing system and models of column, slab, simply supported beam, cantilever beam, footing, helps the students in understanding the theoretical concepts of earthquake engineering.
Civil Computer Applications Laboratory
The department has civil computer applications laboratory which is equipped with 32 computers and installed with high end authorized civil designing softwares, which helps the students to learn about, designing, detailing and analyzing the civil structures.
