LABS AND COMPUTING
Electrical Machine/Commissioning of Electrical Equipments
The Electrical Machine laboratory at the department of Electrical engineering was established and commissioned in June 2010. It was planned in exchange for the study and to realize various characteristics of the electrical machines. In that way, the students can identify different applications of the electrical machines. In addition to this, fundamental research studies such as the Speed control of rotating electrical machines, discrimination of numerous characteristics of the machines and analyzing influencing factors in the operation of the machine. The laboratory also has the provision to carry out maintenance of electrical equipment and project lounge where the students can troubleshoot their hardware setup.
Advance Power System/Power System Design
To enable the students, to gain a fair knowledge on the programming and simulation of Power Systems. The laboratory also enables students to carry out their projects or research work very effectively. The department has several computers and a few servers which includes following software: PSCAD@x4, ETAP-12.5, MAT LAB
High Volatage
The High Voltage laboratory at the department of Electrical engineering was established and commissioned in September 2014. It was proposed in exchange for the study and application the electrical phenomena occurring in various dielectric mediums at high voltages with different classification. In addition to this, fundamental research studies such as the breakdown of insulators can also be carried out in connection with various environment conditions, tracing of electric fields with different configuration of electrodes and generation and measurement of HVAC, HVDC and high impulse voltages. Typical Voltage levels for HV laboratory: 50 kV HVAC, 70 kV HVDC, 60 kV Impulse Voltage.
Green Energy Generation and Control
Sustainable energy is an increasingly important component of the new energy mix. The lab experiments cover the technologies in energy conversion, utilization and storage in solar, wind. The smart micro-power grid will also be designed and optimized through a simulation with the consideration of cost and environmental effect.
This lab is motivated from the strong need to prepare the next generation of inter-disciplinary engineers with a comprehensive background in sustainable energy. The experiments in this lab are designed to stimulate students’ interest in development and research. At the end of the course, the students are expected to estimate the solar irradiance on solar panels, set up solar panels, and evaluate their performance, they can also estimate the wind energy, understand the working principle of wind turbine, and evaluate its performance, understand the factors affecting the performance of solar cell output and design, simulate, and optimize energy systems for home or small community.
Electrical Measurement
Electrical Measurements laboratory provides a “hands on” environment that is crucial to develop theoretical concept of students’ understanding. Electrical Measurement laboratory is housed with different instruments. It measures like different resistances with various bridges and for insulation testing, power measurement and for also power factor measurement. On different instrument or rigs they are arranged in different control configurations to achieve specific control objectives like voltage, current and power. This laboratory will give information to student about how quantity will measure and how it is calibrated properly.
Power System Protection
The protection of various power system components plays an important role for successful operation in current scenario. This laboratory helps to understand the principles and relays used in protection of electrical power system with help of experimental set ups. Various relays like Inverse Definite Minimum Time relays for protection of radial feeder protection, Numerical relay for protection of induction motors, Differential protection of transformer, digital relays are incorporated in this laboratory for experiments.
Electrical Workshop
Electrical workshop is a basic subject offered to the undergraduate engineering students of electrical and non-electrical streams. This lab is very useful to learn Wiring Techniques, Introduction to Electronic components, Lab equipments, electrical components, Soldering Techniques, Basics of Household electrical Equipments, Designing of Electrical Panel. The three main purpose of an Electrical Workshop laboratory are identify and understand importance of various electrical and electronics components, understand basic construction and operation of various electrical equipment and perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of house hold equipments, energy saving etc.
Fundamentals Of Electrical Engineering
In this lab, the basic electrical laws and phenomena are demonstrated after being discussed in the electric circuit courses. Lab is well equipped with the latest equipment. At present, about 5groups (two to three students each) can be arranged easily. After completing the semester, the students will be well familiarized with all types of circuit behaviors and characteristics (Like Resistive, inductive and capacitive load behaviors) in AC. This type of understanding will make it easy to them to work with other labs and in practice.
Electric Drives
Electric Drives Laboratory is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at RK University. The main focus of the laboratory is on the measurement and control of electric drives. In electrical drives laboratory, students learn to deal with all kinds of electrical machine-drives and required subsystems. The experiments are about digital signal processors, circuits of electric power converters, hard- and software as well as automatic control of electrical drives and drive systems.
